  2.  
  3. Thank you for your interest in Oriana for Windows.  This file 
  4. gives some information on installing the program as well as any 
  5. late breaking developments that haven't been included in the 
  6. help file.  A version history and contact address for Kovach 
  7. Computing Services can be found at the end of this file.

  10. * Oriana is shareware.  This means that you may try the program *
  11. * for up to 30 days to determine if it suits your needs.  If    *
  12. * you continue using it then you must register by paying a fee  *
  13. * to the author.  See the file REGISTER.TXT and the "Register"  *
  14. * option on the Oriana Help menu and on the "About" box for     * 
  15. * more details.  Details of the distribution policy for Oriana  *
  16. * Shareware are given in the file VENDOR.TXT.                   *

  19. INSTALLATION
  20. =============
  21. If you have downloaded this program from the Internet or a BBS the 
  22. files will be contained in two .ZIP archive files.  This is done 
  23. for easier downloading, because the complete set of files takes up 
  24. well over 1Mb.  The files will be called ORIAxxxA.ZIP AND 
  25. ORIAxxxB.ZIP, where the xxx is the version number (i.e. 100 for 
  26. version 1.00).  See the file FILES.LST for the contents of these 
  27. two archives.  These two ZIP files must first be unzipped, either 
  28. to a single high-density disk or to a temporary directory on your 
  29. hard disk, before beginning the installation process described 
  30. below.

  32. The files that comprise Oriana are compressed on the distribution 
  33. disk.  Note that they must be decompressed to work properly.  
  34. That means you cannot simply copy the files from the disk to your 
  35. hard disk.  An installation program is provided to decompress the 
  36. files and place them in the appropriate place on the disk.  It is 
  37. best to use this program to ensure that Oriana is installed 
  38. correctly.

  40. To run the installation program follow the following directions.  
  41. It is assumed that the disk will be in floppy disk drive A:.  If 
  42. you have the disk in a different drive simply substitute the 
  43. appropriate drive letter. 
  44.  
  45. 1. Place the distribution disk in the floppy drive.
  46. 2. Do one of the following to start the installation program:
  47.    a) Choose the File command in Windows Program Manager and 
  48.       click on the Run... option.  Type 'a:install' in the dialog 
  49.       box that will appear. 
  50.    b) Using Windows File Manager, list the directory of the A: 
  51.       disk drive.  Double click on the file 'install.exe' 
  52. 3. From this point, simply follow the directions on screen.  You 
  53.    will be asked several questions, including: 
  54.    a) which directory to install the program to - you can install 
  55.       the program to any directory on any hard disk on your system 
  56.    b) which Program Manager group should contain the icon for 
  57.       Oriana (if any)

  59.  
  60. UNINSTALLING
  61. =============
  62. If you wish to remove Oriana from your system, there are several 
  63. files that can be deleted.  First, all of the files in the Oriana 
  64. directory can be deleted and the directory removed.  These files 
  65. will include ORIANAW.EXE (the main program file), ORIANAW.HLP 
  66. (the help file), and all files with the .ORI (data files), .DSK 
  67. (desktop files) and .BAK (backup data files) extensions.  The 
  68. configuration file named ORIANAW.INI, which will be located in 
  69. your WINDOWS directory, can also be removed.

  71. In addition, several files are installed to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM 
  72. directory.  These are files that are used by Oriana but might 
  73. also be used by other programs on your computer.  You must be 
  74. careful that you do not delete these files if they are being used 
  75. by another program.  The file BWCC.DLL in particular is used by 
  76. many other programs developed with Borland International's 
  77. development tools.  It is probably best never to delete this 
  78. file.

  80. Also in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory are the Graphics Server 
  81. files (GSW.EXE and GSWDLL.DLL), which might be used by other 
  82. programs that create graphs, and the Drover's Professional 
  83. Toolbox files (TBPROxW.DLL, where the 'x' is a single numeral).  
  84. You can remove these if you are certain there are no other 
  85. programs that use them.  It might be wise to move these to a 
  86. separate directory for a few days so that you can easily move 
  87. them back if one of your other programs stops working.
